Apply for Fall Mentoring! We are looking for Mentors and Mentees
You can find the forms under the Mentoring link on the left.

The Fall 2008 Session will run from August 18 through December 6, 2008. Applications are due July 1, 2008.

Three curricula are currently available and at least two more will be added for the Fall 2008 session.
Current curricula are:

ASL to English Interpretation: Self Analysis Skills

This curriculum is designed to assist interpreters in improving their ASL to English interpreting skills. This includes techniques for critically analyzing the success of an interpretation, increasing theoretical understanding of ASL to English interpreting, building prediction skills, expanding meta-linguistic skills to effectively discuss interpreting, and recognizing strengths and remediating weaknesses in interpreting work.

Preparation Skills for Interpreters

This curriculum is designed to help interpreters be prepared for a variety of interpreting assignments in community and educational environments. It covers such topics as Demand-Control Schema, text analysis, business practices, team interpreting, working with a Deaf presenter, and more!

Mental Health Interpreting

Interpreters who have mental health interpreting experience and those who are interested in mental health interpreting can benefit from this exciting new curriculum. It covers topics including mental health settings, practitioners, consumers, and the work’s impact on the interpreter.

Curricula that will be added for Fall are Educational Interpreting and Fingerspelling and Numbers Systems.

Member Appreciation Day

Photobucket

Volunteers and members are the backbone of every affiliate chapter. And what better way to show our gratitude for their countless hours of service and commitment then to offer a day filled with delicious desserts, goodie bags, and good company!

The NMRID Board of Directors hosted the first ever Membership Appreciation Day at the popular Flying Star Café in downtown Albuquerque. Attendees were given goodie bags filled with candy, homemade soap donated by local interpreter, Kathy Wolvos and her husband, Adam, seeds donated by a local farmer, gift certificates donated by Winning Coffee, handmade notepads from Stampin’ Up representative, Kathy Morgan, vouchers for a discounted NMRID workshop, and NMRID water bottles. Members enjoyed socializing with each other while devouring a slice of decadent cake and a thirst-quenching beverage.

Congratulations to our raffle winners who left with one of these fine prizes: one-hour massage, gift certificate for flowers donated by Sonrisa Blooms, or a beautiful indoor plant donated by Arca.

There was an overwhelming consensus from the more than twenty-five members in attendance that this event should become an annual celebration of our membership. So if you couldn’t make it this year, we hope to see you next year.

Oh, and one more thing, a huge THANK YOU to Aimee Rivera, Helen Arenholtz, and Heather Park for working with me on this planning committee. It was a fantastic day and it could not have happened without you.

Dana Sumrow
NMRID Co-President

Log in information for NMRID members

If you are a current member who is new to the site here's how to get a nickname (username) and a password.

The log-in page has a link for new user registration. You enter your nickname (more info below) and it will send a Confirmation Code to your email address to make sure you are in the database correctly. If your don't get that email it means that either you are not a current member or you put in the wrong nickname.

When you do get the email go back to the log-in page and type your nickname and your Confrmation Code. It will now send you a password.

For your nickname use your first name as it is on the membership form you filled out, with no capitals. Jane Doe would use 'jane'. If that doesn't work try your first name followed by the capitalized initial of your last name. Ie. janeD
